LumenLab Takes Pioneer Generation Out for a Day of Bicycling Fun!
On 19th February, the team from LumenLab, MetLife’s Innovation Centre, hosted an event for Singapore’s pioneer generation in collaboration with two non-profit organisations, Cycling Without Age and Bikes 4 Fun.
The event was held for a number of our senior citizen friends who have been invaluable partners to LumenLab in our efforts to better understand the challenges they face and develop solutions around ageing well – one of our primary areas of focus. Despite the rainy weather, our guests enjoyed themselves as we took turns giving them rides on rickshaws from MetLife and Cycling Without Age. We also blended fresh fruit smoothies using Bikes 4 Fun’s inventive “Bike Blender” – a bicycle connected to a juicer. One of our young-at-heart friends even got on the bike and tried making a smoothie for the group as well!
Laura Lai, who helped organise the group, expressed her appreciation for engaging the senior citizens in the community. “Everyone had a great time and they are now still raving about how fun it was to ride the trishaw!”
Pernille Bussone of Cycling Without Age captured the mood of the day perfectly: “We cherish the experience and knowledge of the pioneer generation, and were happy to collaborate with LumenLab in an event that brought a group of Singapore’s pioneers to East Coast Park for an afternoon of activity, mobility and making new friends.” Mo Kamal from Bikes 4 Fun added, “We are delighted that one of our bicycle inventions, a recycled pedal powered bike blender, was used to create a healthy fruit drink for the elderly! We hope our efforts can inspire more Singaporeans to re-purpose and recycle old bicycles into useful fun inventions.”
“Both non-profit organizations are prime examples of how an active lifestyle and engagement with the wider community contribute to ‘ageing well’,” commented LumenLab’s VP, Tony Estrella. “It was a wonderful afternoon for the whole team, and one we’d love to do again!”.
At the end of the fun-filled event, the LumenLab team donated the MetLife rickshaws to Bikes 4 Fun to be re-purposed for use in the local community. We’re looking forward to seeing the reincarnations of our rickshaws!
